Join us for an “office hours” like open discussion hosted by Richard Diaz, BlueGreen Alliance, on workforce development. The focus will be on engaging Richard and other Forum members on challenges you face advocating for workforce development initiatives, questions about where to start researching options for funding workforce development, lessons learned, and bouncing around ideas amongst the group as a discussion.
We encourage you to come with questions and ready to engage with peers in small groups representing a wide range of prior experience in workforce development issues. There is no pressure to have prior working knowledge – the session is for learning from one another and Richard. To help, here are some questions to get us started:
  1. Where is workforce development coming up for you in your community or policy advocacy?
  2. How are you engaging in workforce development advocacy? Are you in the initial stages of building relationships, or do you have a formed coalition? We want to understand our group’s experience and areas in which our network could best support your work.
  3. How are you advocating for workforce development funding and technical assistance support in your state? Do you hope to engage state SRF administrative staff to discuss how the SRF program could support workforce development?
  4. What types of water projects are being held up in your community due to a lack (or perceived lack) of a trained workforce? Are utilities and municipalities struggling with succession planning?
  5. Where is your community on the spectrum of water resource contracting – are there local hire requirements, contractor development programs, and contract policies favoring long-term funds for building a workforce?
This session is open to everyone interested in issues related to building a trained and certified water infrastructure workforce; no prior experience in the workgroup or with this topic is required.

Join us for our quarterly national convening call for all Forum members. More details coming soon!
